Todd, Terry and Jason attended the New Product Showcase tonight at ICAST. It was good to see our friends from the media and catch up with them. But of course the cool factor centered around the new products for 2011.
There are a bunch of new rods and reels. Wright McGill has new Skeet baitcasters and spinning reels. Pinnacle has some new exciting rods and reels. The new Denali rods looked real nice with the Carbon Fiber handles and Todd especially liked the St. Croix Mojo Musky rod.
The new Skeet rods are light, look good, feel good and come in a much smaller package. Jason thinks they will be a big hit as well.
A couple of new products already caught our eye. One was the Koppers Frog. The hollow-bodied frog is anatomically correct and has a great hook and easily collapsible body. It comes in two sizes, and we think that bait is going to be a hit.
We also really liked the new Spro baits. A McStick Jr. with a smaller profile but looks like it will cast well like its big brother. Of course the smaller swimbait is dynamite looking. And we were really intrigued by the McRip for deeper jerkbait fishing and John Crews big bodied crankbait for fishing around shallow wood.
The Minn Kota Talon is an all-electric automatic anchor system. It basically comes straight down out of the unit and stakes your boat into place. No hydraulics. It's got a pretty good weight to it as several writers were picking it up just to see how heavy it would be on the back of a boat. But we're very excited to see what this thing can do.
The product that wowed Jason the most was the new weight from TightLines. They are the guys that make the UV plastics and sponsor Byron Velvick on the Elite Series. They have a new non-lead weight that is made out of a super dense plastic. We were seriously impressed with the idea and the weights were only slightly larger than standard bullet weights.
Here are a couple quick shots from the New Product Showcase. Our apologies, but the lighting is always atrocious and it's hard to shoot through the glass cases.
Tomorrow morning we'll be able to get much better quality photos and will be blogging continuously throughout the day. We can't wait to show you more from Rapala, Sebile, Gene Larew, St. Croix, Pinnacle, Big Bite Baits, Costa, Strike King, Berkley, Damiki, Jackall, Sufix, Toray, Seaguar, Wright McGill, TightLines, Koppers, Yum, Abu Garcia, Denali, Phenix, Dobyns, and more. Was hard to get a lot of photos done tonight but we'll be blasting them out tomorrow.
