Time is getting right for some bass to start ganging up out deep. The bass have been spread out and paired up and found every piece of shallow cover they could find to ambush prey for the last month or two. But now the offshore reunion has started, and all the bass are throwing a big party and getting back with all their buddies from college and inviting the girls out to party as well.

A story of the average Joe angler doing something more than just fishing
Fishing, some would say, is really an act of faith. I mean you have to have faith in what you’re doing is the right thing at the right time. You have faith the fish are in an area because you caught them there before under similar conditions and seasons. You have faith that your equipment will get the job done and that you’ll use it properly to land a bounty. And the ultimate test of faith is the fact that nine times out of 10, you can’t see the fish so you don’t know what’s going on under the surface. You have to just keep the faith that they will bite.

Going against the grain can pay off in fishing
I’ve been asked a lot recently about flipping on Kentucky Lake and Barkley Lake. If you been following me on Facebook, then you probably know what I’m talking about. I’ve had a lot of fun over the last month flipping on a flooded Kentucky and Barkley Lakes, but I was flipping good weight all the way back in early April before the floods.

Bassmaster Elite Series rookie pro Ben Parker of Springville, Tenn., is an accomplished angler on the Tennessee River and has taken his fishing to the next level and learning as he goes at the top level of the sport. We're going to be featuring his learning experience this season on the Elite Series in the next week or two. But we recently got to spend the day on Kentucky Lake with Parker talking about his theories on crankbaits.
He’s known as an offshore angler, and he’s very electronics savvy having logged more than 1,000 hours idling ledges and scanning with Humminbird Side Imaging for what he calls “mega-schools” of bass. Then when he find them, a crankbait is often his weapon of choice to verify that it is in fact a school of bass he’s found and to figure out just how many fish will bite.
He’s very adept at triggering bass with a crankbait, and his methodology is like that of any great athlete. A good wide receiver knows if he jams his defensive back and gets him on his heels before he makes his cut on a route he can get a little separation. Parker has learned little nuances about his crankbait selection and how he fishes them to be able to trigger fish when others might not.
Here are Ben Parker’s four tips to get more bites on a deep diving crankbait offshore.

Craig Powers is well known for his prowess with the Rebel Pop-R. Recently he’s more known for his line of CP Series homemade crankbaits. He learned the craft from Sonny McFarland and has his CP Series baits are the real deal.

If you haven't fished Kentucky Lake, then some of these pictures won't make as much sense as they do to those of us that fish it regularly. I spent a couple hours during lunch yesterday driving around to various locations to document the flooding. The lake has never been this high and may not be this high again for some time.
