Pickwick has been showing out this week. In a fishery not really known for a surplus of double-digit bass like those in Texas, Florida and California, two fish over 10 pounds have now shown themselves thanks to umbrella rigs on the AL-TN-MS fishery.
If you haven't fished Kentucky Lake, then some of these pictures won't make as much sense as they do to those of us that fish it regularly. I spent a couple hours during lunch yesterday driving around to various locations to document the flooding. The lake has never been this high and may not be this high again for some time.
In response to a request by Growth Energy under section 211(f)(4) of the Clean Air Act, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has partially expanded their earlier waiver to allow fuel and fuel additive manufacturers to introduce into commerce gasoline that contains greater than 10 volume percent ethanol and up to 15 volume percent ethanol (E15) for use in model year 2001 and newer light-duty motor vehicles, subject to several conditions.
Environmental groups not accepting the Environmental Protection Agency's decision to reject the petition to ban lead fishing lures and hunting ammunition have filed suit against the EPA.
Don't neglect the privilege as anglers
Today the Environmental Protection Agency waived a limitation on the sale of gasoline with up to 15% ethanol -- also known as E15 fuel. The waiver only applies to vehicles made in 2007 or more recently. Right now it's still unlawful to sell E15 to 2006 or older vehicles.
Avoiding accidents on the water becomes more important as more folks take to the water each year. On lakes like Kentucky and Guntersville, there are thousands of boats on the lakes every weekend. Everyone that owns a boat owes it to themselves and their loved ones to know how to avoid common situations on the water.
Our friends at Costa are having a photo contest and a video contest related to sharing a fishing memory. The "Gift of Fishing" contest is to feature photos and videos that tell the story of how someone shared the gift of fishing or that moment when you were hit with the fishing bug that has stayed with you the rest of your life. Hopefully this will inspire and encourage other folks to share fishing with future generations.
